Some jolly old pagans used to celebrate May Day by lighting a fire and jumping through it for good luck. The Romans came along and connected it to their worship of the flower goddess. Here in the U.S. it marks a day of violence between striking labor unions and the Man.
In Ski Nation it’s just a good old goofy celebration of the giant pile of slush that’s left on a pitched piece of ground. If you don’t have a pile of slush, it’s a nice day to mournfully walk around your neighborhood with skis in hand, but that was not our fate. The fine folks at Big Boulder Park stockpiled enough slushiness for a proper May Day celebration. The event brought skiers from all corners of the Northeast, and everyone celebrated the event in their own special way.
There were those who marked the occasion by gawking at Sean Jordan:

The nose/tailblock contest strained some hamstrings and threatened to snap some skis.

Otherwise, it was a good time to huck yourself into oblivion and splash around in muddy slushiness.

Tailblocks… not so easy!
