Energy Booze

If there’s one thing BroBomb can get behind, it’s corporate sponsorship. We love that shit. As the voice of skiing’s little guy, we are constantly on the prowl for new opportunities to put your health at risk while putting some cash in your pockets. It’s a tough sell, but there are some products that are just a natural fit.

Surface and Skullcandy (not the press release)

As you may or may not have heard, Surface is teaming up with Skullcandy for a line of co-branded skis, poles, headphones, and other trinkets. The press release has been posted and reposted on most skiing related websites, but there were still some nagging issues we wanted to clear up. We decided to ask Mike Schneider, the man behind the “the fastest growing brand in freeskiing,” a few questions.

If You Weren’t Jealous Already

The majority of the skiing public is suffering under oppressive heat and counting the months until temps start dropping once again. The lucky 1% is busy packing a bag for Hood, Whistler, or S. America. Our friend Dylan is taking a different road; with a dirt bike and some hard work he found some good old-fashioned natural June snow.

A Cautionary Tale

Like most teenagers at the time,  I did some rollerblading in the 90’s. I’m probably not going to shock you when I say that getting aggressive on a pair of  skates was pretty damn popular at one time, and then it faded into an oblivion only skiboarding can relate to. I’m no roller historian, but it’s safe to say that the sport experienced a textbook bubble effect. Before it had any culture, history, or underground foundation, it was featured in every cheesy Disney movie and junk food commercial. Knee-and-elbow-padded rebels terrorized the populace and brought radical fun wherever they went. When Bob and Betty Customer got tired of the extremeness, rollerblading got put out on its ass.

Literate Skiers: Erik Olson

literate skiers

Erik Olson leads a bi-coastal nomadic existence. You can catch him in all of the offerings from Meatheads Films, and in several webisodes of Traveling Circus. He’s currently posted up in Oregon and shredding Mt. Hood between the raindrops. He took some time to plug back in and answer some questions about books.

Have you ever gotten any reading done on the chairlift?

No way, that doesn’t sound like any fun. For me, skiing is about being on the mountain. I make an effort to leave all distractions at home. I never ride with music, and rarely have my phone with me. The same kind of idea applies to when I read, just creating a favorable environment for whatever I’m doing at the moment. The only time I can remember seeing someone read on the lift was probably five years ago. It looked miserable… snow, wind, cold. I just remember thinking this kid must have been the biggest nerd on earth. Continue reading this entry »

Hot Posse Season Wrap-up

Mythical creator of the ski-handplant and OG Jibij team member Jon Hartman and his pals, Colin Kirkpatrick, Jake Scarzec, Steph Meyers, and Owen McKee (among others), are the Hot Posse. They hail from Colorado and get a bunch of their shred done at Echo Mountain Park and Ruby Hill Railyard. Check out the season wrap-up from some dudes who are old enough to have jobs.

Oh, and if you’re watching this at work or school, be careful because it’s likely to get you in trouble right from the opening frame.

We’re Going Viral!

brobombing collage

Skiing is great and all, but I’ve made it no secret that I’m in this for the money. We gave the snarky-ski-blogger thing a good college try, but my bank balance is lower than ever so something’s got to give. The obvious solution is to “go viral.”

This Bros Icing Bros thing seems like it’ll be cool for about two more days, so we’ve decided to make a spinoff to ride its coattails. You may have noticed that “Bro” is already in our url, so the name of our soon-to-be ultra popular game is “BroBombing Bros.” It takes the lighthearted brotacular fun of the original game and replaces it with gratuitous violence.

Things I Wonder: Resort Toilets

toilet collage

Over the course of the past season I skied at seven different resorts that I can think of. They span from the smallest molehills of PA, to the frozen peaks of Vermont, and even some sunny Tahoe treats. The quality of the amenities varies drastically, from village wine bars and gastropubs to glorified cafeterias selling microwaved pizzas. However, the one thing you can be sure of is that the crapper will not be ski boot friendly.
