It’s not that he’s mad at a guy like Joe Biden who is always “out over his skis.” I mean, he only “gently chided” him. But he probably just feels that Backseat Bob should have the same rights as Frontseat Fred. We don’t really get into politics here on BroBomb, but this is a pretty big deal for us. Where we live, most people on skis could probably be described as backseat-curious, if you will.

So this should come as a relief to park rats, weekend warriors, and closet backseaters everywhere. It’s finally OK to ski the way you were born to ski, without being ashamed.

Now is there the possibility that this is just some political stunt? Of course. I mean, this is bound to be popular in places like Breck and Big Boulder, as CO and PA are swing states. But let’s just enjoy the moment. OK, you cynical bastards?

They’re back and there’s more real snow and real skiing than you might expect. For some of you that will be a reason to play this video…for some that’s a warning. You decide.

Tanner is still a few years away from being skiing’s loveable old-man-yelling-at-clouds Gary Busey-esque mascot (but it will happen). And as long as media outlets like HBO are holding him up as the embodiment of our sport every time he opens his mouth will continue to be a cringeworthy event. But how could we stay mad at a face like that?

Even if he causes everyone in the world without an NS account to collectively roll their eyes in unison. And even though he seems oblivious to the notion that they do, in fact, stop boxing matches before people die. And that neither NASCAR nor Indycar is an unregulated steel cage match of automobile induced death…the dude does want to land on Mars. And don’t we all share that dream in common? Somewhere deep down in the core of our collective human psyche?

Question one: How did you guys end up hooking up with Hickling and Leigh?

So long story short we were rolling from Hood to Whistler for Dragon Fest and we had nowhere to stay in Whistler, I had talked to him online a few times and just called him up and he hooked us up with a space to crash for the week. Which was much better then Max (Hill)’s floor.  Hick knew Leigh, so we all kinda met up that way.  He liked us so much in the four days he partied with us that he moved to the States for the winter.

So he actually moved to Denver for the winter?

Yep.

Was he bummed he missed the whistler season?

Nick now has a Hot Possie tattoo and everything, so he is in for life.  I think he knows he made the right choice.

Damn.  Serious shit.  Were there any problems with him being Canadian?

We are partly a group of friends, partly a ski crew and partly a satanic cult.  He had a gig through Icelantic kinda, so he had an in to get into the States…. it’s kinda a long story and his story to tell so I won’t get into that.

And then Leigh Powis came down too?

Yeah, he came down for a few days to film with PBP then he hung out for a few more to shred around with us. Nick and Leigh have been tight for a very long time so it was pretty obvious for him to stay for a bit.

Is he going to have a bunch of shots in the video?

Most likely besides partying no, there were some pretty heavy features hit so they may be going to PBP. That is Nick’s gig so we will see, however you will see the some of the same features as they were hit by Hot Possiers also.  Honestly, besides a few guest shots every shot was gotten by 3 of us: Owen Mckee, Nick Hickling and myself.

So where did you guys shoot for the movie?

We did go to a few out of state spots but with such a bad snow year we only filmed urban in Colorado. It’s basically a Denver-based film.

Was there much snow in Denver itself this year?

Yes actually. Denver is a very weird city when it comes to urban, it can get dumped on and have snow for weeks on end, or it can get like 4 inches all year and be useless. It’s really just a gamble, but it is a great city to live in.

How much of the urban in denver has been done compared to a place like SLC?

Not a ton. I mean snowboard crews come through a lot and Level 1 hits a decent amount of stuff in Denver, but it is a really quickly expanding city and I would say that a large portion of the urban out here is untouched.

What advantages does living in Denver have compared to other ski-cities like Salt Lake and Seattle?

Honestly, probably for all of us as post-college, mortgage having, decrepit old men, it has work and nightlife which is nice. And it doesn’t hurt that it is pretty close to some major hills and gets dumped on from time to time.

Denver is apparently filling with hipsters, too.  We anticipate rents will begin rising shortly.

Do you all have day jobs?

Yea, well Nick is an editor and filmer, so its’ an unusual schedule. Owen is some sort of oil man, so he works a pretty standard 9-5. I work as a designer so I have a pretty flexible schedule and the rest of the crew finds time when they can. We all work relatively ‘real’ jobs but we make time.

Any advice for day jobbers thinking their skiing only happens on the weekends anymore?

Get your shit together, if you care about something you find time to do it.  Skiing on the weekend frankly kinda sucks, its crowded, filled with gapers and the parks get all blown out. It just takes some finagling to get a schedule that works for you.

So what can we expect with this video compared to previous Hot Possie offerings?

Better skiing, better editing (thanks to Nick), better partying. Just a step above our other projects, that is why we worked all winter on it. I mean hell, just get drunk and watch it, you will see the difference.

Final question: what effect does bringing a camera to the bar produce in most cases?

Well it either goes really good and you get some fun madness from friends and strangers, or it goes really bad and some dude in a Tap Out shirt gets agro. It’s worth it either way.

Those are slushy bumps. They will not be mentioned below, but they are fun.

Fun is good. Although it’s also a band, which is not very good (but that one song from the Chevy commercials is pretty catchy). But the real breaking news out of Mount Snow this past weekend is that skiers are having it. Fun, that is.

Strange, right?

For you left coasters, the park area at Mount Snow is called Carinthia. In this mythical land of magical gnomes and trolls, the lift goes straight over the main park, providing an excellent vantage point from which to people watch. In past years, the view from this perch has caused me to lament how snowboarders actually did fun stuff that made me want to try to copy them (typical skier), while skiers mechanically performed the prescribed tricks in the prescribed ways on the prescribed “features” ad infinitum.

Imagine my surprise to find that this year it was skiers doing fun stuff. From gypsy kids tippy-tapping and buttering over every bump in the snow to faux-Harlauts tranny-finding the shit out of the place, it was a truly heartwarming scenario. All of that to say—and I still can’t believe I’m about to say it—skiers were actually the ones having more fun out there. Well done.

Now, with all the warm-fuzzy shit out of the way, let me remind you that skiing/skiers as a “culture” still suck. I can’t count the amount of times I watched/listened as some kid decked out in a “Post your outerwear thread” approved outfit rolled up to his friends and proclaimed to have just done the illest __________ [insert rotation of spin].

Which leads me to my next point: Can you please stop patting yourselves on the back and actually give someone else some damn credit? You WILL have more fun if you cheer your buddies on instead of trying to claim the shit out of everything you do. And if your friends aren’t douches, they’ll return the favor, resulting in bigger smiles all around. Not to mention, you’ll be sparing me from the unbearable strain of rolling my eyes all day. It’s a silent killer.

Let me also say that while fun seems to be having its moment in the sun, it is still under attack. Fashion is the enemy. I’m as guilty as the next guy, well, depending which guy is next. But there is a point where this shit gets out of hand. If it isn’t asinine enough that there are kids who wear cotton hoodies when there’s a -20 wind chill, that same kid will continue to wear a balaclava and tall hoodie even when it’s 70. Wear whatever you’d like, but if you’re making conscious clothing choices that actually limit your fun, you’re an asshole.

In conclusion, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I have nothing clever to say about that. Last weekend I stayed in a hotel where an unlimited, cooked breakfast was included in the price. It was awesome. Sorry that was so unhelpful. Please accept this awesome picture of a husky as compensation.
