Free Movie Friday: Colleged

Look at all that snow just sitting around back in 2010/11. Urban movies are gonna be very bare this season.

Best Top 10 List of 2011

In a Top 10 list of the best Top 10 lists, we’d put this one in the top 5. That’s right. So don’t you dare argue that we missed a deserving skier because that’s impossible. We must have sent four emails back and forth finalizing this list. No one has been overlooked. The list is in no particular order, except for JP– he wins.

Best People in Skiing for the 2011 Calendar Year

1) JP Auclair: Last year JP made the decision to step away from Poorboyz and work on a different type of segment. The result? The viral edit of the year. His All.I.Can street segment crossed over to an audience beyond skiers. The only thing to rival this thing’s popularity with the non-skiing set is perhaps Tanner’s “my ankles” video. And thank God this is what went viral and not some video of a superpipe cut into “cubes.”

Back to Basics in PA

PA generally, and Big Boulder specifically are well documented incubators for ski talent. Witness Jamie Ficco, Cody Gushlaw, and the one and only Sean Jordan.

Japanese skiing is so damn cool. Why don’t American crews ever shoot with them when they go over there? Oh well, check the sequel after the jump.

The Funk is Back

The Garrett Russell Experience. G-Funk. Garrett. Even if we all call him by different names, we can all rejoice in the fact that Garrett Russell is BACK. After sitting out last season rehabbing a torn ACL, chopping carrots, and drinking whiskey in Telluride, Garrett is back on his feet with a clean bill of health.

While Garrett got his ski legs back under him in Argentina this summer when he wasn’t throwing his GoPro snake at me, he was mostly ferrying around 15 year olds from Long Island and soul shredding.  Now with the first video evidence of Garrett’s park ninjaship on the internet, I figured it was time to check in.

Brobomb: How’s your knee feeling these days?

Garrett: The knee is feeling great!  It’s this damn collarbone that doesn’t feel so well.  Just broke it last week at Northstar.  I would tell you how, but can’t remember… guess it might be time to wear a helmet now. Concussions are a headache.

Sunday Morning Coffee: Mt. Hood Blend

Another well-rendered mellow jam from the boys at Timberline.  Jeffrey Kohnstamm and Mike Janes put it out to get your Sunday morning going.  Get your coffee and get out and shred some bullet proof park.

Free Friday: GPSY Feelin South America

We’d gotten a preview earlier this fall of Leo T’s insane French big-mountain antics in Las Leñas, Argentina. Now the full movie from the trip to Amérique du Sud is available for viewing. I’m not sure how to say “ski and destroy” in French, but I’m pretty sure martillos is Spanish for “hammers.”

Epicly Mellow Timberline

The plethora of average-day resort GoPro edits has been nothing short of beating a dead horse… with a dead horse.  Sorry bro, but your eight-foot drop into chunder with no style or ability to edge both your skis at the same time does not warrant a Glitch Mob soundtrack.  Luckily, Jeffrey “Jeffy K” Kohnstamm understands matching action with tone and puts out a well-rendered, colored, and music-ed mellow pow edit.  Nimbus will not be trembling in their boots, but the restraint is welcomed.

TrashParty Preseason
